Metodi e tecniche digitali per la ricerca applicata ai beni geostorici

The essay intends to analyze GIS applications projects for the visualization and analysis of geography and historical cartography. Historical GIS (HGIS) stimulate more and more interest with a dual purpose: they allow us to deepen geo‐historical research by making available online maps and cartographies that would otherwise be limited; HGIS could be used in training with respect to geo‐historical issues. The HGIS works and applications represent a challenge for GIS users who can deal with the traditional principles of cartography with a new approach. Through a series of national and international case studies, potentials and opportunities are illustrated.
